Word Filled Wednesdays: What is your Goliath?

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 1 Samuel 17:50 (ASV).

5 small stones and a sling.  That is all it took for David to slay Goliath.  No sword, no mighty weapon.  Just 5 stones and a sling.  A bit incomprehensible to us, isn't it?  Goliath was huge, gigantic really, fierce, and confident.  David was small, humble, and faithful.  In hindsight, we are not really surprised that the underdog David was triumphant.  He had the Lord cheering him on.

Funny what faith can do in your life, really.  You see, we are all David.  Even the strongest among us has a Goliath to slay.  Our Goliath may be illness, or addiction, depression, despair, grief, poverty, any number of things.  The point is, we all have at least one Goliath in our lives, a gigantic "thing" that many people think we cannot over come.  Perhaps even we think we cannot overcome it.  It seems we just are not properly equipped to deal with this giant.  But what we have forgotten is, God is on our side, He is cheering for the underdog.  All it will take is a little faith.

Sometimes, faith comes in the form of a new medicine or treatment.  Sometimes in the form of a rehab program.  Sometimes it comes in the form of a better paying job.  And sometimes, it is just pure unadulterated love.  You see, David was not the only underdog; Jesus was an underdog too.  He was mocked and jeered.  Whipped and beaten.  Yet He prevailed.

David conquered Goliath with 5 stones and a sling.

Jesus conquered death with 3 nails and a cross.

Both of them had God on their side.

Amazing, what faith can do.

So, what is your Goliath?  Seems pretty daunting, doesn't it.  Do not worry.  You have God on your side too.
